Ellen enjoys a busy court practice primarily in personal injury, civil fraud and credit hire. She acts for both Claimants and Defendants in fast-track and multi-track trials and applications as well as costs and case management conferences.
Before her career at the Bar, Ellen taught English in Japan with the JET Programme. During her studies, Ellen volunteered with the Kaplan Legal Advice Clinic and the Free Representation Unit, ran debating workshops in local schools, and was a Law Tutor at Debate Chamber. She was also involved in competitive debating, representing Wales at several international competitions.
In her spare time, Ellen volunteers with the Social Mobility Foundation as a mentor for university students from disadvantaged backgrounds who intend to pursue legal careers.
Personal Injury and Civil Fraud
Ellen has extensive experience in the field of personal injury, appearing in both fast-track and multi-track trials and regularly advising on liability and quantum. She routinely represents Claimants and Defendants in claims arising out of road traffic accidents as well as claims with complex employers’ liability and public liability arguments.
Ellen is experienced in advisory, drafting and court work involving allegations of fraud and fundamental dishonesty.
Ellen frequently advises on costs arguments in the course of her practice and acts for both Claimants and Defendants in costs and case management conferences.
Inquests and Inquiries
Ellen has been involved in the preparation of numerous high-profile and sensitive inquests, including deaths in prisons and police custody. She has undertaken disclosure exercises on the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse and on the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
Health & Safety
Ellen is experienced with health and safety issues arising out of her personal injury practice, including several claims on construction sites. She is keen to develop this area of practice further and is a member of the HSLA.
Ellen acts for both Claimants and Defendants in credit hire litigation. She regularly deals with cases involving enforceability arguments and claims concerning fleet vehicles.
Ellen volunteered with the Free Representation Unit prior to joining Chambers. She is a contributor to the Employment Brief Update Newsletter.
