14/07/2017

It is with enormous pride that we are able to say Downing Street has today announced that Her Majesty The Queen has approved the appointment of The Rt Hon Sir Ian Burnett as the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales with effect from 2 October 2017.

Sir Ian was a member of Temple Garden Chambers throughout his practice at the Bar. He was our Head of Chambers between 2003 and 2008. He was appointed a Judge of the High Court, Queen’s Bench Division in 2008 and was Presiding Judge on the Western Circuit between 2011 and 2014. He was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2014.
