Rodney Dixon KC and Aidan Ellis acting for over 115000 victims (from Kericho County) of human rights violations during the period of British colonial rule, have filed a complaint with supporting evidence to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Promotion of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Guarantees of Non-recurrence and to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights under their respective mandates.
The violations concern the forcible acquisition of ancestral lands in Kericho County (well-known for its tea plantations), the abuses perpetrated, and continuing effects on the local population. The victims are asking the UN to investigate these allegations, to conduct site visits, and to engage with the parties including the UK Government to settle these claims and compensate the victims.
Rodney Dixon KC and Aidan Ellis are instructed by J.K. Bosek & Company, Advocates, Nairobi.
