The Complaint submitted to the ICC Prosecutor on behalf of the East Turkestan Government in exile concerning the alleged genocide and crimes against humanity committed against the Uyghur and other Turkic peoples of East Turkestan, has been extensively reported on and widely supported since it was filed last month.
Media outlets around the world have reported on the filing. The news reports have highlighted that credible evidence of serious international crimes has been submitted to the Prosecutor including in respect of the alleged deportation of Uyghurs by the Chinese authorities from outside of China into East Turkestan, and that the scale and gravity of the crimes warranted a full investigation to be opened by the Prosecutor. Many Governments have since spoken out against the crimes being committed against the Uyghur peoples. In the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has recently stated that the UK Government has “serious concerns about the treatment of the Uyghurs and about the human rights abuses”, while Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab denounced the “gross, egregious human rights violations”.
