Proscribed Organisations Appeal Commission judgment on LTTE proscription

23/10/2020

POAC handed down its judgment allowing the appeal against the Secretary of State’s refusal to deproscribe the ‘Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam’ (the LTTE), on application by the ‘Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam’ (TGTE).

The case concerned whether the Secretary of State had a reasonable belief that the LTTE was ‘concerned in terrorism’, and the application of discretionary factors. The hearing took place in both Open and Closed sessions. POAC will now consider submissions from the parties on the question of relief.

Emily Wilsdon was instructed for the Secretary of State, led by Sir James Eadie QC and Ben Watson.
