Rhys Davies attends U.S. Military Commission proceedings at US Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

Rhys Davies is attending the Guantanamo Military Commissions as an NGO observer on behalf of the Association of Defence Counsel practising before the International Courts and Tribunals (ADC-ICT). The Military Commissions at Guantanamo Bay were created by the Bush administration in 2001 to try non-U.S.-citizens suspected in terrorism cases. Rhys will produce a report on the ongoing proceedings in the case of United States v. Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi upon his return to the UK. Al-Hadi has pleaded guilty to war crimes charges for his role in al-Qaeda attacks against U.S., British and other allied forces along with civilians, in Afghanistan.
