Rhys Davies is attending the Guantanamo Military Commissions as an NGO observer on behalf of the Association of Defence Counsel practising before the International Courts and Tribunals (ADC-ICT). The Military Commissions at Guantanamo Bay were created by the Bush administration in 2001 to try non-U.S.-citizens suspected in terrorism cases. Rhys will produce a report on the ongoing proceedings in the case of United States v. Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi upon his return to the UK. Al-Hadi has pleaded guilty to war crimes charges for his role in al-Qaeda attacks against U.S., British and other allied forces along with civilians, in Afghanistan.
