Rhys Davies authors an article in The Times calling for Interpol Reform

07/11/2024

In an article for The Times, Rhys writes “Interpol’s effectiveness depends on trust — trust that is rapidly eroding under the weight of political manipulation and institutional compromise. Interpol needs robust mechanisms to uphold the highest standards of integrity. Crucially, it must establish genuine independence from political interference.”

Interpol’s 92nd general assembly is taking place in Glasgow this week. The organisation’s red notice system has faced criticism that it is being abused by authoritarian regimes to target dissidents. New secretary-general Valdecy Urquiza faces calls to reform the system while maintaining Interpol’s crucial role in global policing.

Rhys specialises in dealing with Interpol Red Notices and submissions for deletion to Interpol’s Commission for the Control of Interpol’s Files.
