Complaint filed at FIFA regarding the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia

15/05/2025

Rodney Dixon KC, with leading international human rights experts Professor Mark Pieth (Founder of the Basel Institute on Governance, Basel) and Stefan Wehrenberg (Attorney at Law, Zurich) have today filed a complaint with FIFA regarding its failures to implement its Human Rights Policy in respect of the bidding process for the 2034 World Cup, and to ensure that Saudi Arabia, as the host State of the 2034 World Cup, meets the required minimum international human rights standards.

A press event will be held in Zurich, where FIFA is headquartered, on Friday 16 May at 11:00am (CET) to address the complaint – [link attached].

The complaint has been submitted to FIFA under its Human Rights Grievance Mechanism, which allows individuals to raise human rights concerns in connection with FIFA’s activities and events, which must then be considered and addressed by FIFA.
