Settlement reached in Vardy v Rooney costs dispute

08/05/2025

The long-running and high-profile costs dispute between Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney concluded on 6 May 2025, after the parties agreed a settlement shortly before a two-week detailed assessment was due to begin.

Mrs Vardy had been ordered to pay 90% of Mrs Rooney’s costs (totalling £1.833m) on the indemnity basis following her unsuccessful libel claim, and Mrs Rooney also sought detailed assessment costs of over £319,000. Under the settlement Mrs Vardy’s costs liability was reduced to £1.19m, and the SCCO reduced Mrs Rooney’s detailed assessment costs to £212,266.20.

Juliet Wells represented Mrs Vardy in the detailed assessment proceedings, instructed by Michael Tyler of Kingsley Napley.
