Rhys Davies will be hosting a panel discussion on transnational repression at London’s Frontline Club this evening.
The event follows the publication of the Joint Committee on Human Rights’ July 2025 report, which concluded that foreign regimes are operating with impunity on UK soil to surveil, threaten, and silence critical voices—including journalists. The panel will examine how authoritarian governments weaponise international law and institutions, using tools like INTERPOL Red Notices, digital surveillance, and diplomatic pressure to stifle independent journalism and target dissidents globally.
Joining Rhys on the panel will be Ben Keith (5 St Andrew’s Hill), Catherine Philp (Chief Diplomatic Correspondent, The Times), and Sahar Zand (investigative journalist and filmmaker). The discussion will feature first-hand accounts from journalists who have been targeted, assess the UK’s legal and political response, and examine what reforms are urgently needed to protect media freedom and human rights defenders.
Rhys brings extensive experience in challenging politically motivated Red Notices and representing clients targeted by transnational repression. Earlier this year, he gave evidence to the Joint Committee on Human Rights on these issues.
