Kuwaiti Extradition Order Upheld in the High Court

30/10/2025

Judgment was handed down on 29 October 2025 in an appeal concerning the first extradition to be ordered following the implementation of the Extradition Treaty between the Government of the United Kingdom and the Government of the State of Kuwait. Mr. Badie’s extradition was sought by Kuwait following his conviction for participation in a high value fraud and money laundering scheme. The Divisional Court dismissed both the appeal against the District Judge’s decision to send the case to the Secretary of State and the appeal against the decision of the Secretary of State to order Mr. Badie’s extradition.

Kathryn Howarth represented the Secretary of State, in relation to a ground of appeal concerning specialty arrangements.
