Allianz Insurance v Barlow

22/06/2020

Citation
QBD

Edward Hutchin (instructed by Andrew Thomson of DAC Beachcroft) represented the successful insurer in this case in which the dishonest Claimant was found guilty on two counts of Contempt of Court.

Video footage had shown the Claimant, a boxer, in a competitive bout despite claiming that he could not box because of his injuries.

A High Court Judge found the Claimant guilty of Contempt, sentencing him to a fine and giving a judgment confirming that it was important that parties knew that lies told in Court proceedings would not be countenanced and that an element of deterrence was required.
