The definition of “equipment” under the Employer’s Liability (Defective Equipment) Act 1969 was explored
A solicitor’s personal injury claim against her employer, arising from a workplace accident that occurred when a fire door handle detached as she pulled it, was dismissed. The claim was brought on the basis that the door handle was defective under the Employer’s Liability (Defective Equipment) Act 1969. The court concluded that neither the door nor its handle could be regarded as “equipment” for the purposes of the Act.
