Haxhia, Mithan, Bridgeman, Simpson and Hunt v Government of the Republic of Albania

04/02/2026

Saoirse appeared on behalf of Ms Bridgeman before Mr Justice Swift in this multi-handed appeal and judicial review. The Requested Persons’ extradition is sought by Albania to face trial for a gang-related murder. Unusually, the Requested Persons both appealed the District Judge’s order for extradition, and also applied for judicial review of the SSHD’s decision to order extradition on a complex and novel basis: that the order for extradition was wrong since it referred to “offences within the warrant” when the prosecutor had informed the court during proceedings that the charges had changed. Swift J heard five days of argument on the sufficiency of the offences’ particulars and the effect of the inaccuracy of the extradition order. Judgment in awaited.
