Inquest into death of Stuart Coburn

27/03/2023

Dates of case
27.03.2023

Ellen Robertson represented the family of the deceased, Stuart Coburn, at the inquest into his death in Iraq in 2016.

Former British soldier Stuart Coburn, 43, was unlawfully killed when he was attempting to neutralize a 100kg improvised explosive device (IED) in Iraq.

Mr Coburn, who served in the Army with the Royal Engineers, was employed by a US mine clearance company working in Ramadi, Iraq.

The Coroner reached a conclusion of unlawful killing. As the US mine clearance company was no longer involved in operations in Iraq or involving IEDs, the Coroner held that the duty to make a Report for Prevention of Future Deaths did not arise.

Ellen was instructed by Victoria Cox of Slater and Gordon.
