Inquest into the death of Owen Chandler

27/03/2024

Dates of case
27.03.2024

Ellen acted for the family in two linked inquests arising out of the murder of a father, Mr Freeman, by his adult son, Mr Chandler and the subsequent suicide the next day of Mr Chandler.

The inquests examined the mental health treatment and discharge of Mr Chandler by Devon and Plymouth NHS Trust over a number of years, as well as expert evidence from an independent clinical psychologist who had reviewed the treatment. The Coroner accepted the family’s submission that the Record of Inquest should reflect that the discharge of Mr Chandler had only given limited consideration of the risks to others. Ellen was instructed by Patrick Maguire and Kate Daflon of Horwich Cohen Coghlan Solicitors.
