Lionel Stride (instructed by Kevin Coakley at Horwich Farrelly) represented the Defendant in an amputee case pleaded at £7.5 million. The main areas of dispute centred on the extent and cost of the care regime; single-level accommodation; future work capacity; failure to mitigate loss by returning to work; and the number and type of prosthetics required. Full settlement was agreed at a JSM against leading counsel in the net sum of £3 million. This recognised both the severe nature of the Claimant’s injuries, tempered by his resourcefulness and more limited prosthetic and accommodation requirements after taking into account the existing adaptations to his property, as well as his work capacity in a sedentary job.
