Ovalbek Turdakun and his family have managed to flee to the US from Kyrgyzstan. They arrived in Washington DC last week. Mr Turdakun was previously held in a detention camp facility in China for 10 months but managed to escape to Kyrgyzstan. Rodney Dixon KC, Anne Coulon, and Paul Erdunast acting on his behalf will submit his testimony to the ICC as part of their application to the Office of the Prosecutor to open an ICC investigation into the international crimes allegedly committed against Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples over which the ICC has jurisdiction.
Mr Turdakun is the first Christian detainee to provide evidence to the ICC and to do so publicly. He explained his relief to be safe and secure with his family, at a press conference in Washington DC last week which was addressed by US Congressmen, humanitarian organisations and his lawyers.
