The Telegraph reports on submissions filed by Rhys Davies calling for the Foreign Secretary to impose Magnitsky sanctions

14/02/2022

The Telegraph reports on an application for sanctions filed with the FCDO by Rhys Davies and Ben Keith of 5 St Andrew’s Hill Chambers on behalf of Ryan Cornelius. The application is supported by a cross-party group of Peers and MPs, and activist Bill Browder.

A letter signed by Sir Iain Duncan Smith, Andrew Mitchell, Lord Hain of Neath, Sir Simon Hughes, Sir Peter Bottomley and Stephen Kinnock calls for Liz Truss to designate a senior Dubai government official for sanctions under the UK’s Global Human Rights Sanctions Regulations and the Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions Regulations.

Ryan Cornelius has been held in a maximum-security prison in Dubai since 2008. Submissions sent on his behalf, set out how the 67-year-old British businessman has been the victim of state-sanctioned persecution of the most serious kind.
