William Hoskins
William Hoskins has substantial experience of professional discipline and personal injury work, including highways and inquests.
William has acted as a tribunal chair and legal adviser to a significant number of regulatory organisations over the last decade. In consequence, he us thoroughly versed in the principles applicable to this area of the law and in a position to provide knowledgeable and realistic advice and representation to professionals who find themselves in the sensitive and difficult position of having to appear before their regulator. His experience in this field has included the full range of matters liable to come before a regulator, from issues relating to professional competence to allegations relating to conduct in a registrant’s private life.
William is very experienced in all types of multi-track personal injury litigation (excluding those arising from occupational disease), ranging from workplace accidents to catastrophic injury arising from road traffic accidents. He is used to dealing with the range of expert opinion required in cases of catastrophic injury and the issues in relation to quantification of loss that tend to arise most frequently. He has been instructed in claims up to a settlement value of £10m.
William has particular experience in claims arising out of the condition of the highway and in matters relating to the liability of occupiers, both in respect of accidents arising on the occupier’s land and the duties of an occupier towards those on adjoining premises.

William has been instructed in a number of inquests which have attracted widespread public attention, in particular the inquests arising out of the Selby rail disaster, the Rhyl Cycle Club tragedy which occurred on the A 547 near Abergele, and the Chester le Street/ Dreamscape fatalities. In the latter two inquests he was instructed on behalf of the families of the deceased. In the former, he was instructed by the Sec. of State for Transport. He has also been concerned with a number of inquests arising out of deaths in custody.
William has experience of applications for judicial review of coronial decisions, and in this context have appeared on behalf of a number of coroners. These applications have generally involved questions about the proper scope of the inquest having regard to the coronial duty to conduct a thorough inquiry and the application of Article 2 ECHR.
