Inquest into the death of Samuel Curless

04/02/2026

Saoirse was instructed by the Family. Mr Curless called 101 to say that he had found a dead body and whilst he was on the phone call proceeded to hang himself. Saoirse provided detailed questioning of several attending police officers, the call handler and police trainers. Saoirse persuasively submitted that Article 2 ECHR was engaged on both an operational and systemic basis. The Coroner agreed and provided a narrative verdict which was highly critical of the Police. The Inquest raised wider issues concerning the officers’ training during Covid, which necessitated the Coroner to write to GMP with her concerns.
