We are pleased to share that the 18th edition of the Guidelines for the Assessment of General Damages in Personal Injury Cases was published on 9 April 2026.
Richard Wilkinson is a member of the Judicial College working party behind this well-known and widely used practitioner text, alongside Mrs Justice Lambert DBE, Stuart McKechnie KC, Steven Snowden KC and Lisa Sullivan, Master of the King’s Bench Division.
The Guidelines are a key reference point in personal injury litigation, helping courts and practitioners assess general damages. This new edition has been updated to reflect inflation since the last edition and recent higher court decisions. It also includes important changes to the sections on Epilepsy and Sexual and/or Physical Abuse, a new bracket of damages for Miscarriage, and an updated note on tariff-based awards for whiplash injuries.
