Croydon Tram Crash – Sentencing Hearing

02/08/2023

Keith Morton KC and Nicholas Dobbs represented Transport for London over a three day Sentencing Hearing before Fraser J at the Old Bailey. The prosecution arose out of the tragic tram crash on 9 November 2016 resulting in the deaths of 7 passengers any many injuries. TfL was sentenced to a fine of £10 million and Tram Operations Limited to a fine of £4 million. As the judge explained, the disparity in the fines was a function of the Sentencing Guidelines in operation where one defendant has a far lower turnover than the over.
