Undercover Policing Inquiry

Major statutory public inquiry into undercover policing chaired by Sir John Mitting, retired High Court Judge.  David Barr KC has been appointed Counsel to the Inquiry. Andrew O’Connor KC is instructed to act for National Crime Agency.

Sherwood v Janssen

Acted for the claimant in a civil fraud action for £500,000 against a foreign-based individual who challenged jurisdiction. The claim was settled after the defendant was subjected to a worldwide freezing order and he submitted to jurisdiction

R v Lenton (Ryan)

A sentence of 10 years was reduced to one of seven-and-a-half years’ imprisonment in the case of an individual who had pleaded guilty to robbery after taking part in a night-time attack on a homeowner which involved significant violence.

R (C & W) v Secretary of State for Work & Pensions, Zaccheus 2000 Trust intervening

Declarations of unlawfulness made in relation to delays in the processing of claims for personal independence payments. Associated human rights claims dismissed. David Barr KC and Nicholas Moss KC appeared on behalf of the Secretary of State.

Re Daniel Yeowell

Representing the family in the inquest into the death of a young man who died on a building site. The jury concluded that there had been a series of failings by his employer which contributed to his death.
